The bottom of Mt Maunganui Hill (steep climb) is at 5kms and is 2.2km to the top followed by a long downhill. At the bottom of the hill (8.3km) follow road around to the right (Awa Awa Roa Rd on left). At 8.4km turn left into Waiheke Rd where the sign points to Onetangi. Wind up this hill to the top of Waiheke Rd. Instead of following main road go straight ahead into Belle Tce – 11.3km. This will loop back onto Waiheke Road. Continue down this hill to Onetangi.
Continue on Waiheke Rd and turn left into Onetangi Rd. Go along Onetangi straight past the Golf Club. In Ostend turn left into Calais Tce (16.9 kms). After this hill turn left into Natzka Rd, go past Anzac Bay and right into Ladd Rd. At the top of the hill (18km) turn left into Ostend Rd and down to Putiki Bay. Turn right into Wharf Rd. Join up with the main Rd (Causeway Rd) by turning left and go across the Causeway. Proceed through the roundabout and through Surfdale (this main road changes names several times – Alison, Mitchell, Miami and Hamilton Rds). Leave the main road by going straight ahead where Hamilton Rd veers right and becomes Surfdale Rd (20.7km). Turn left onto Lannan Rd and this becomes The Esplanade which is a metal road. Follow the sea wall around to Blackpool (back on sealed road), turn right in Moa Ave (22.1km), left into Nikau Rd, right into Tui St, left into Mako Street. At the top of this hill turn left into Church Bay Rd (23.3 km) and then right into Nick Johnston Drive. 200 metres along the road you turn right and follow the Atawai Whenua track down to the finish line at Ahipao.

• Parking is extremely limited due to the narrow roads around the start line area. Ask a friend to drop you off.
Do I enter as a runner or walker?
If you are thinking of jogging or running AT ANY POINT in the event you do need to be entered in the run category. The walking category is only for those who have committed to walk the event from start to finish. Please ensure you are entered in the right category at pre race registration.
Will the walk event be policed?
No. We will do our best to ensure all participants enter the correct category (run or walk) at pre race registration but that is where our policing stops. No event staff will be policing that each walk category participant will be strictly walking across the entire event course on the day as this is not an official sanctioned walk event.
At the post event awards ceremony we will announce the provisional winners of the walk category based on the provisional results that we have. Post event, if you believe a particular participant needs to be altered from the walk to the run category please use the Contact Us form on this website and we will follow up with that participant. If that participant agrees that they should be switched, we will switch – if they disagree or communication cannot be made with that participant they will remain in the walk results.
Kauri Dieback
At Wharf2Wharf we are passionate about preventing the spread of Kauri Dieback. We are fortunate that no Kauri Dieback (KDB) has yet been detected on Waiheke – in fact Waiheke is one of the last places in New Zealand containing kauri that has no confirmed Kauri Dieback infections. We intend to keep Waiheke non-infected. The disease that attacks the kauri is incurable, is easily transmitted and once on the island it cannot be removed and can remain dormant and viable for up to 10 years. For more information on Kauri Dieback, please visit the website www.kauridieback.co.nz
